LUSITANO RETREAT — P29 BUILD NOTES Use only with the main pallet guide and material intake checks. Illustrative dimensions are not a structural rating. MEASUREMENTS 1. Example three labels each 300 × 100 mm; actual viewing distance sets final text size. 2. Separate physically defined ACCEPTED, HOLD and REJECT areas; labels alone do not segregate stock. CUT LIST / COMPONENTS 1. Three sound accepted slats cut to 300 × 100 × actual thickness mm. 2. Replaceable batch-reference cards and suitable sign attachments. 3. Existing bay supports; storage or waste containment assessed separately. TOOLS 1. Tape, pencil and square; clamps and a flat bench. 2. Suitable saw, drill/driver and pilot bits matched to the chosen fasteners. 3. Sander with effective extraction; metal detector before machining accepted boards. ASSEMBLY 1. Walk the intake area and agree distinct accepted, hold and reject positions with the workshop lead. Check the route from unloading to each bay and identify any goods or waste storage restrictions before making signs for the locations. 2. Write the exact status wording on paper and leave a replaceable area for the current batch reference. Use both words and contrasting colours so colour alone does not communicate status; keep acceptance criteria in the separate material register. 3. Select three accepted boards with sufficient clear face for the lettering and mounting. Mark a 300 × 100 mm example rectangle on each, scan for metal and cut away damaged edges; enlarge the sign if the actual reading distance requires it. 4. Cut and smooth the boards, rounding exposed corners where people pass. Test their positions against doors, vehicles and stored timber; mark permitted attachment locations on the existing supports without drilling until the support and fixing choice are checked. 5. Apply the intended interior or exterior finish according to the exposure and let it cure. Paint ACCEPTED, HOLD and REJECT prominently; add the batch-reference holder below so the record can change without obscuring the permanent status name. 6. Mount each sign to its corresponding suitable support using new appropriate attachments. Keep fixing tips enclosed and edges within the support footprint; do not mount signs to unstable stacks, damaged pallets or temporary pieces that can fall into routes. 7. Run a sample intake using an empty batch record and a clearly identified piece of accepted stock. Confirm that a person unfamiliar with the layout can find the correct bay, read the sign and trace the batch without guessing from colour. 8. Reconcile actual stock with the register and correct any misplaced material before normal operation. Keep hold stock unavailable for making; a reject sign does not grant authority to store waste, so arrange the appropriate separate handling or disposal route. FINISH AND CARE 1. Weather-suitable finish and high contrast text. 2. Use explicit words plus colour; batch cards stay replaceable. COMPLETION CHECKS 1. Sign, physical bay and register status agree. 2. No projecting corners or hidden storage/waste restrictions. Guide: https://lusitanoretreat.com/build-guides/building-with-pallets/#project-p29
