LUSITANO RETREAT — P22 BUILD NOTES Use only with the main pallet guide and material intake checks. Illustrative dimensions are not a structural rating. MEASUREMENTS 1. Illustrative label face: 100 × 40 mm, with thickness set by accepted offcuts and existing holders. 2. Measure holder opening before cutting; timber stays outside edible growing media. CUT LIST / COMPONENTS 1. One small rectangular timber face per label. 2. Existing suitable plant-label holders, plus outdoor marker or paint. TOOLS 1. Tape measure, pencil and square; clamps and a stable cutting support 2. Metal detector, suitable saw and drill with timber bits; dust extraction and PPE appropriate to the operation 3. Sanding block, straightedge and the selected connection manufacturer’s installation tools ASSEMBLY 1. List the plant names and useful dates before choosing the label size. Measure the existing holder opening so each timber face can be retained without forcing or sharpening the offcut. 2. Choose small clean accepted offcuts with enough sound material around the proposed outline. Mark a rectangle for each label and keep old nail holes and splits outside the retained piece. 3. Secure the timber on a stable support and cut the rectangles using a method appropriate to small workpieces. Do not hold tiny pieces close to a moving blade or cut unsupported slivers. 4. Sand the faces and round all accessible corners with a sanding block. Remove dust and check each label with a cloth so no splinter remains where a hand will place it. 5. Test the marker or paint on a spare coupon and verify readable contrast in daylight. Apply plant names consistently, leaving space for a date or batch reference where it helps the garden records. 6. Let any applied coating cure according to its instructions before placing labels near plants. Preserve the original seed-packet information separately rather than replacing it with a shortened decorative name. 7. Fit each finished face into its existing holder and position it beside the separate pot. Keep timber out of edible growing media and out of walking routes, with no pointed offcut left exposed. 8. Walk the planting area and verify every name against the actual pot. Update labels when pots move and withdraw cracked or faded faces rather than leaving an unreadable or sharp marker in place. FINISH AND CARE 1. Sand hand-contact surfaces and ease exposed edges; retain readable batch identification on a concealed face. 2. Use a finish selected for the actual exposure, following its preparation, coat and cure instructions; treat cut ends as specified. COMPLETION CHECKS 1. Labels retained without sharp projections; names match the pots. 2. Known timber history does not by itself establish food-contact suitability.
